“My wife and I were out watching the hot air balloons and decided to stop somewhere to eat. This place was on diners drive-ins and dives so we thought we’d stop there. The server recommended Molé which was fantastic if you like sweet Molé. I loved the parking especially because it was wide spots that your car would not get dinged. Between the food, service and the parking I will definitely go again.”

The Kezar Pub

“We went there days in a row since we were staying at the hotel two doors down. The many waitstaff we had all provided friendly, good service. . Actually, we woke to singing from the pub on Sunday morning. They were showing the Irish Gaelic Football Championships and the lads were well into it. The place was packed, white an exciting vibe. The other days were more sedate, but this is a sports pub so fans can be expected. . The first day I had the gourmet burger, which was huge. The pub fries were exceptional. The next day we split shepherd pie and Gangnam wings; we liked them both. The third day I had Buffalo wings with the big basket of tots. I'd Jones'd for tots since I first saw them on the menu, and they didn't disappoint. . For drinks, we'd had various beers and many Jameson & Gingers. The last batch of J-Mos seemed to be made with Sprite rather than Ginger Ale, but we certainly stiff enough. . When back in the area, we'll frequent The Kezar Pub again. Good times.”

Viva Madrid

“We’ve been patronizing this restaurant for over 15 years now. It’s a cozy spot for some familiar flavors. Some of the staff have turned over since the pandemic but I’m glad Viva Madrid is still vibrant. We usually hang out at the bar and order a few of our favorite tapas. The house sangria is a must have. It’s one of those places that you need to visit more than once to taste the variety of items on the menu and compile a list of favorites. Consider starting with a green olives, batatas-bravas, jamon y queso, then graduate to mushrooms and chorizo, oxtail stew and/or squiring cooked in its ink. Like I said, it takes a few visits to figure out what you like.”

La Cosecha Bar And Restaurant

835 12th St, Paso Robles, CA 93446, United States

“We dined @ 5:45 on a busy Saturday night … it was packed and noisy so we were prepared for some waiting. It took nearly 30 mins to get our drinks, though other tables seated way after us got their beverages promptly. Our server was lovely and apologetic- seemed the bar and kitchen could not keep up? We were told our food would come out ‘as ready’ which is fine. The grilled Cesarsalad with shrimp, octopus and a side of papas brava (which we discovered would cost $16 !) came out fairly quickly and were yummy. Chicken paella was promised several times but arrived long after everyone was finished. Took a few bites and it was not tasty at all Our server apologized and took it off our bill, offered dessert, etc but we were ready to go. It’s is great location on the square but I’d not consider retrying it given all the other options.”

”Great experience. Quiet because it was a weekday afternoon and then it started to fill up. They have great customer service and the food was delicious. Prices were reasonable and we had food to take home. Definitely some where to go to again and again.”

”Another LA staple. From the DT location to the Pasadena location, they always deliver. I like that they have both outdoor and indoor seating, and it's spacious. My go-to is their OG mini taco sampler plate, it comes with the steak picado, bistek Roja, tinga, mole, chicharron & cochinita pibil. And I highly recommend trying their chicharron (deep fried pork rinds braised in Chile verde). Simply the best! I noticed that they have expanded their menu these days. We also had the ceviche tostada, and I must say, it was unexpectedly fresh! They also have tamale, quesadilla, and breakfast options (breakfast only before 11am) Simply put, one of the best stewy tacos in LA! #bb10”

”Myself into group of friends came here from my birthday dinner recently. While the service wasn't great, the food made up for it. The seafood paella, yucca fries, and butternut squash were must-haves. The pollo a la parilla was good. The tomahawk steak was the only culinary disappointment of the night but I believe it was our friend's fault for insisting on it being cooked medium which was too much.”

Los Portales Mexican Grill - Montclair

”We had a staff gathering and we ate during their lunch specials. Their horchata was delicious just too sweet 8/10. I had the shrimp tacos, they were OK, I feel they need to add more of the dressing on top to make them tastier 8/10. The rice was OK, 7/10, I particularly don’t like Mexican rice because people usually don’t know how to cook it, but this was not bad, just bit cold. The carne asada appetizer was delicious, would have been better with a different type of cheese 9/10, like queso fresco instead of a melted cheese. Their salsas were not spicy at all, there was a quemadita that I asked for and that to me was better than the one they give you with chips and salsa.”

Chalet Basque Restaurant
4.2
( 8 reviews ) $$

200 Oak St, Bakersfield, CA 93304, United States

”This experience was unique to us, because the environment of the restaurant was exquisite, and the menu looked so impressive and low priced for what it was. But, when my halibut arrived, it was the most unimpressive grilled halibut I've had. It's sad, because halibut is usually amazing. This restaurant has so much potential, but they need to get a real chef in there to fix some of their important cooking issues. The staff is very kind, and I don't have the heart to tell them the truth about the unimpressive halibut. I really want this restaurant to improve so that it's a pride of Bakersfield, like it probably used to be. Basque food is amazing. I want people who go there to have a 5 star experience when it comes to the food. They were 5 stars for everything but the main courses. The soup, bread and beans is all very yummy. We also got the orange glazed duck, and didn't really like it, but I've never had it before to have anything to compare it to. The texture was rubbery. I will probably try this restaurant again someday to see if they improve, but it's difficult to make that gamble when there are other Basque restaurants to choose from here.”

3 Hermanas

”We originally were going to eat @ Tres Hermanas but they are closed on Mondays. So, we decided to try 3 Hermanas . It is smaller than "Tres" but very clean and comfortable atmosphere. Parking is available behind the restaurant. Chips and salsa were excellent. (Only one free refill offered. Same with sodas and tea. After second refill you get charged again. ) We ordered three taco combo plates, served with rice and beans. Food took longer than expected to reach our table. Two of our entrees were prepared wrong. (All beans no rice, served with rice and beans. Beef taco, served with chicken and no cheese.) Food was served hot and tasty. Service was excellent, except for the aforementioned above. The food was good, though.”

”Pleasant atmosphere, there is a center courtyard for outdoor dining. Each of the food items we ordered was very good, service was moderately OK. The server did not listen to what we had asked for so we had to have changes made when our meals were brought.”

El Tarasco

109 Washington Blvd, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292, United States

”We wanted to sit down at a little Mexican restaurant by the beach and this is exactly what we got! Visiting from a place that doesn't have good Mexican food and this was excellent. The ceviche portion is huuge. The Chile relleno had just enough heat, a big chunky crust and tons of oozy cheese. Quesadilla was awesome. Could have had more cheese but it was super stuffed with chicken that had a delightful flavor. Salsa for the chips was very good, too. Service was perfect. We got lunch at 9am and the server was super friendly. Thanks for the awesome food.”

Tia Margarita

300 19th Ave, San Francisco, CA 94121, United States

”Love the vibe of this place. To be fair I went for dinner and not drinks, though I wish I would have gone for drinks instead. Dinner was huge, it was good, but unfortunately not necessarily amazing in my opinion, there's so many amazing Mexican restaurants in the city it just isn't at the top of my list. The refried beans were yummy, as was the guacamole, the tacos were meh, enchiladas were pretty good, the salsa was SUPER disappointing. But all in all I would still go back with a group based on the ambiance and the service.”

”Everything was absolutely delicious, staff was fast and ready to serve and make every table feel special. The food was amazing, we had the salmon and the lamb. The salmon melts in your mouth and tastes so fresh! The lamb was absolutely amazing and tasted so robust. The owner Alejandro is very personable and great to his customers. I will definitely be back again for my next special occasion.”

San Laurel

”The best high end dining experience I've had in Los Angeles, not only because of it's location right across from the visually stunning Walt Disney Concert Hall, but also because of the delicious harmony of tastes, colors and textures in each and every dish. The service is amazing, with the staff attentive to every request and inquiry, making you feel right at home. They were so accommodating as well, noticing that I was cold and gave me a warm blanket and a heater at our table. The food is outstanding. We went with two appetizers, one side dish, and three entrees for three people, and two desserts. That was more than enough food for all of us. They surprised us with a Spanish flan for our special celebration, too. I would 10/10 recommend this restaurant for any special occasion, including anniversaries, graduations, birthdays, and more.”

998 W Mission Bay Dr, San Diego, CA 92109, United States

”Zero value for money Oh, what a delightful experience we had at the Beautiful mission bay settings on New Year's Eve! The inside was just as charming as a time capsule from the 80s, complete with a lovely aroma of musty carpet. But fear not, for our hopes were reignited when we laid eyes upon the outside deck with its enchanting fire pits. Alas, our hopes were quickly extinguished once again. We were presented with two options for our dining pleasure: the New Year's Eve menu or the regular menu. Naturally, we opted for the $110 menu per person, because who wouldn't want to indulge in a burger and bar food that's just like any other day of the year? To make the experience even more exquisite, we decided to splurge on the wine pairing. The first plate to grace our table was a lobster bisque that could only be described as a salt mine. I'm not sure if it was meant to be a soup or a science experiment, but either way, it was nearly inedible. Next came the steak, which started off promisingly tender but quickly revealed its true age with each bite. And now, I find myself engaged in a battle with a delightful stomach ache. My husband's salad was a masterpiece of simplicity. The wine pairing, priced at a mere $20 for three glasses, was a steal. And by steal, I mean it was so cheap that we should have known better. The sommelier/(waitress that looked like she had enough of the place too) graciously provided no information about the wines, leaving us to ponder the mysteries of "here a Pinot noir and here a Cabernet." And to top it all off, we were treated to a warm white dessert. Truly a culinary adventure for the ages. Now, I must say, I don't usually concern myself with the price of food as long as it's good. But for the privilege of enduring this horrific experience that nearly ruined our New Year's Eve, I must decline. Thankfully, we have a sense of humor and spent the evening laughing at our misfortune. So, if you do decide to visit this establishment, I suggest you enjoy the view and perhaps have some fires done, but don't expect much more than that. Cheers!”

”Came here for a quick bite. Ordered chicken tostada bowl, chicken was dry with flavorless rice and beans. The green salsa was watered down. Free chips and salsa were ok. Food looked good but had no taste. Disappointed.”
