“I stopped by on Friday with a friend of mine. She wasn't really hungry so she asked me to order her Natural Cut Fries and Potato Salad. I ordered myself, Half Chicken and Mac N Cheese. I had to wait a bit to get help, but I was understanding because I've worked restaurants before. Mrs. Calhoun's (owner) took my order then I sat in a table. After she helped few customers behind me, she asked me if I wanted an additional plate since she noticed I came with my friend. I said yes, and thank you. People kept coming in to order and others were waiting on their orders. I immediately knew this place was going be good. Once she brought our food, she noticed the table was a bit dirty so she immediately cleaned it herself before giving us our food. I loved the BBQ flavor sauce and the chicken was tender. The Mac N Cheese had black pepper and good cheese texture. I also would like to mention the cup size was perfect for my feasting. I will definitely be back! She gave good service, the food is flavorful. Even my friend liked the food a lot. I plan to go again and this time take my sister and mom with me. I hope and know that in the near future Calhoun's Family Texas BBQ will get a bigger location so there is more seating. I will definitely be able take my siblings and their kiddos. But in the meantime I might just need place a catering order and just let my family try it here at the house, no matter what Calhoun's Family is serving our communities with flavorful BBQ meals, good heart and staying strong through it all. “This place has been here for decades. Ownership has changed several times over the years. Not many selections in the area for a seafood fish market that also fries. Taste of food is somewhat decent when you have a craving for fried fish. Had the lemon pepper chicken wings. Those were very salty. You will need to call or ask in person. The menu online is not up to date. Many items are not available. The prices have gone up a bit. Parking is on street only and not to many close by. No public restrooms. There are a couple of picnic tables out front. Not the best ambience for eating there. No indoor seating at this time.”

“This place right here!!!! Man, the collard greens were the best I’ve ever tasted, and I love me some collard greens!!! The Red Snapper was superb!!! The prices were excellent!!! I was visiting from San Diego, I really wanted to go back and take some food home with me but I ran out of time. The young lady who served us was so patient and kind with us, we will be back! We might just fly there to get some more of their food!!!”

“I’m glad I took my friends here. I ordered the jerk Jamaican over rice it was delicious!! It had the perfect balance of spices, tenderness, and sweetness! Fries are my must-haves, while i'm not a crinkle cut enthusiast, these were absolutely satisfying , prefectly crisp, soft, and flavorful. My order also came with cornbread! Of course we got dessert. I really wanted to try the caramel cake but it was sold out. However, they had my favorite — red velvet!! The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, and the staff were friendly. My go to recommendation for soul food!!”

“We went here for my mom's bday and we loved our experience. For starters, we ordered the Bam Bam Shrimp and Blackberry BBQ chicken wings and both were so good. The shrimp was crispy and the spicy remoulade drizzled on top of it was just the right amount and wasn't too spicy. The Blackberry BBQ was moist and not too sweet. For my entree, I ordered the fried chicken with grilled mac and cheese. The chicken had a nice crisp and was also moist on the inside like the wings. I have never had grilled mac and cheese before and I liked the one that they had here. I was expecting it to be dry, but the inside was creamy while the crust had enough crisp that it was still not burnt. My sister ordered their gumbo and it was homey and had a lot of meats in it. The portion sizes were HUGE! The servers were all friendly and very accommodating. For dessert, we had their bread pudding that I wished was a tiny bit sweeter and had more sauce. We also tried their apple pie which was sooo yummy. Overall, loved our experience here. Will go back for some more grilled mac and cheese.”

“I ordered a chicken breast and a wing. That breast was very flavorful and juicy. The chicken was crispy and filled with a lot of white meat. The wing was good too. It came with some fitters and fries. The fritters was good. I definitely would recommend the restaurant to friends and family. For the price of this meal, you get a lot of band for your buck. Come on an empty stomach. You will leave satisfied.”
