La Parolaccia Osteria - Long Beach

“I had very high expectations for this Long Beach Italian restaurant, based on reviews I've read and on the fact that the owners are from Rome, the city where I was born and raised. I mean, it's a good restaurant and the food is good, but if I compared it to any good restaurant in Rome, it would totally lose. We had suppli' (fried rice balls with a ragù sauce and mozzarella) as an antipasto, which is a staple of Roman street food, and that was the first disappointment. Like I said, I don't mean to say the food was bad, but it was on the bland side, when compared to what you can eat in any Roman "rosticceria" or restaurant. I can say the same about the Amatriciana pasta. The pasta itself was very good and well-cooked, but the sauce was nowhere near as savory as what you'd typically get in Rome. I suspect one of the reasons is that real guanciale and 100% pecorino cheese (what the original recipe calls for) make this dish a tad too pungent for people who aren't used to this flavor. The pizza was much better and pretty much on a par with an average pizza in Rome. But not with the best pizzerias in the city. Finally, the panna cotta dessert was OK, but nothing special. Consider that this isn't a cheap restaurant, and my reviews are always based on value for the money.”

“I'm a old customer, been eating at this place for years, I can't recall how many years but the pizza here is incredibly delicious. I would've gave this place 5 stars but at my most recent visit, I started to notice that the pizzas were smaller and for the beef pizza with pepperoni, the beef changed from small pieces but more portions of it to marble shaped sizes but smaller portions. Now, they arent serving more of the toppings as before, which disappointed me and my family. I also got a Hawaiian pizza and also had fewer toppings. The pizza cutting skills arent the best but overall everything else is going fine. I'm waiting to see more toppings, but not the downfall of this business. (No pictures included, already ate the pizza) Update: The beef situation is solved, it's back to normal! I seen the prices have gotten higher over the years but its probably because of inflation. And, we should understand that the ingredients cost them aswell. The pizza is still delicious.”

“I enjoyed their pizza! The tomato sauce used taste so organic, let me explain, the sauce feels home made to where you sometimes get little tomato pieces with herb. That was so satisfying, less salty than your traditional marinara sauce. The pepperoni taste average, and the jalapeños did taste as though they were out of a can. The dough and sauce were what sold me. Now the garlic bread, I do wish it had more garlic sauce. Preferably drenched. The amount was somewhat low, and the added cheese was not it for me. Although I did not disapprove,(I eat everything by the way. It has to be completely nasty for me not to eat it). 😄 Had I known, I would've asked for no cheese. You also do not get a side of sauce with it. Sucks... There ranch taste similar to KENS brand. The Buffalo sauce taste close to a mixture of BBQ and Frankz. Not a bad combination, but not what I asked for. Overall, was pretty good and wouldn't mind eating here again.”

“Decent pie! The bolognese bruschetta didn't do it for me but the brussel sprouts were good! Great service and beer selection! I would work on the sauce a little bit but still good as is!”

Hail Mary Pizza

“I always wanted to give a try to this place, so I did recently, the food seems fresh, the crust is nice and satisfying right in between crunchy and soft. The mozzarella and the burrata were a bit disappointing. The marinara was nice and tangy and well balanced. I’ll definitely go back to try other pizza than just the margarita which was a bit expensive in my opinion for what it is. Great service and very fast though. They also don’t have slices which is a bit unfortunate.”

Big Belly Pizza Company

“Best pizza in the area, my opinion of course. The crusty is nice and crispy and the toppings take better then the competition around. The sides and wings are satisfying as well. Been there 3 times so far, has been consistent so far. My young daughters enjoyed the Mac and cheese bites too.”

“So, I've come here for almost a decade now. It's usually pretty good, for the price you get decent quality toppings and the dough is tasty and the ranch is really good. Tonight was very different. New staff of employees, they did a very poor job. One pizza had so much Alfredo sauce all the toppings literally just slipped off and fell into the box just pulling a piece off. The cheese bread was so greasy I was able to sneeze actual drips of oil off of it. I know it's cheese bread, and it's always a little greasy I mean cheese is greasy, but there was way too much butter sauce used. The bread was soggy with oil. Taste wise, it was still okay in terms of flavor. But man I couldn't even eat more than two pieces of the bread because it was just so heavy with oil. Really ruined it for the whole family... the four of us talked about it and we are done getting pizza here. It was a waste of 40 dollars. We also didn't even get the cups we ordered which made sharing the 2liter more unpleasant. I don't think I'll want pizza for a while, I thought pizza pirates was the safe haven away from domino's and pizza hut and God awful little Cesar's but I guess not. Don't know that I'll ever order here again. Can't say I'd suggest it unless you really like a half cup of grease on your pizza”

“We had a good experience overall! We had a reservation, were seated right away. The server was very nice! We started with the drinks and broccolini appetizer - I didn’t really like it, pretty small, hard to share and eat with the fork. We ordered sea bass dish, which was really really good!! 🐟I feel like we enjoyed the salad it came with more than the actual fish, it was a pretty unique salad! We waited for pizza for a long time, but it was worth the wait - very tasty 🍕 They have valet parking, but we parked on a metered one across the street”

“Great dinner date spot. Great ambience - the platform is usually lively but not overly crowded. The heaters are particularly great for chilly nights and they’re always willing to adjust it. The house-made stracciatella with the domed bread and green lettuces are solid starters. The bee sting is sometimes off-menu but a really great alternative to their original, with a hint of honey and spice. We didn’t make reservations but managed to get a table outside pretty quickly on a weekend night.”

“This is the review featuring the Ziti Alla Bandiera photo you’re looking for. It was an interesting choice/experiment, maybe not worth the $17 if you’re hungry. Service was great and the Meatlovers pizza was absolutely delicious. The outside of the restaurant, up to the door is very dirty. It’s a problem of the city of Los Angeles, but I would clean it if this was my business. There’s a really nice outdoor backyard that’s not properly advertised. I had dinner there and I loved it. Great at night when it’s hot.”

“Had lunch here for the first time and it was just okay, and really expensive. I paid $61 dollars for 2 slices of pizza, 2 iced teas, and half of a sandwich to go. Service was okay, but seemed slow and disorganized for what we ordered. Pictured here is a slice of the meatball pizza. Not much meat, or ball on this slice. Definitely not a high value on this meal, especially since I just returned from Italy and an entire Porchetta sandwich was 7 euros and not $21 dollars!”

“Beautiful restaurant + amazing food + incredible service Grabbed lunch with a friend here for the first time & we both agreed it is already one of our top restaurants. I got the salmon coconut curry bowl and it is phenomenal. I really appreciate it when chefs combine artistry to their dishes without sacrificing flavor. The curry was so good and I love how healthy + nutritious it was as well. It has salmon, black rice, bok choy, sweet potatoes, and chickpeas. The portion is perfect for one meal. I also tried my friend’s chicken kebab and it was delicious. They also have gluten free options. The location is beautiful and walkable so after eating it’s a nice area to walk it off. Interior feels elevated and photo worthy. The service is also amazing. Everyone is kind but especially my server today, Tiffany, who was incredible and went above and beyond. She’s a gem! 10/10 will be coming back and also a great spot to eat at with out of state visitors! :)”

“We tried a sausage and mushroom pizza. The crust is definitely the highlight on this pizza. Not a fan of the actual sausage. Seems a bit too processed. Could have used a little more sauce. But I’d come back and try a pepperoni. There’s a small adjacent free parking lot that is shared with other establishments.”

“Made reservation through OpenTable and was seated right away once we arrived. Atmosphere is very nice, but space is small. Our table was too close to other peoples tables for comfortable conversation. People who were dining beside us were very courteous and respectful. But I could see it would be problematic if people next to us were too loud and obnoxious. Service was excellent. Food and drink were off the charts. They were so delicious, we almost licked the plates. We were served complimentary glass of white wine, and small cupcake? for our anniversary. Cocktails we ordered was served with smoke of rosemary. It was fancy. Bill was $180 for 4 items and 2 cocktails. Reasonable for fine dining experience with delicious food. Will be back for sure!”
