“Loved my stay here. This was my first ever time staying in a hostel, and it was exactly what I needed. Friendly employees, good spaces to study/work, good security, great food! I only had one roommate in my 6 person dorm, so that was fine but I can't speak for the full experience of all travelers. The buildings seem very historic and fit neatly into the landscape of NW Portland. I feel very happy now knowing that I have a cheap place to stay and feel welcome if I'm ever back in Portland again.”

“We recently stayed at this hotel and, unfortunately, my overall experience was marred by significant issues with billing that have yet to be addressed by the management. The restaurant, though offering a pleasant ambiance, overcharged us on the night of our visit. We promptly paid the amount on our credit card, only to discover later that the same charge had been added to our room bill as well. Despite multiple attempts to reach out to the management via phone calls and emails, there has been no response or effort to rectify this error. Another financial hiccup involved a daily fee for the gym, which was closed during our stay. We were assured a refund, but once again, our attempts to follow up on this matter have gone unanswered. It seems that the hotel is quick to charge for various amenities, even for a simple cup of self-serve coffee in the morning, without providing the promised services. On a positive note, the hotel is well decorated, offering a comfortable and spacious room with a cozy bed. However, the thin walls are a significant drawback, allowing guests to hear everything happening in adjacent rooms. The bathroom, while serviceable, is smaller and somewhat outdated, with a few areas featuring dirty tile floors—more a result of age than neglect. I would hesitate to recommend this hotel, particularly if you plan to visit the restaurant. Be vigilant when checking your bill for accuracy, and be prepared for challenges if you need to dispute any charges. Despite the attractive decor and comfortable rooms, the lack of responsiveness and accountability from the management significantly tarnished my overall impression of this establishment.”

“(it contains no spoilers) I went yesterday for the first time with my boyfriend and we were warmly greeted by super friendly staff, all dressed up on the theme of the place. Shortly after our arrival we could go to our chosen room (the crypt), and everything was awesome. The decoration, the ambiance... The puzzles were cool and there were just few padlocks, what's great. But... (and here's the reason for the three stars) one of the puzzles didn't work. So we kept trying to find a mistake, loosing a lot of time (5-10min, what's a lot in a game like this), until we gave up and went for clues. And our solution was right, but the puzzle wasn't triggered by our response so we kept trying another couple of times until the puzzle worked and gave us the next clues. At the end we couldn't finish the room and although I can't tell we could've finished with the extra minutes (we were close to, according to the game master), it was still super frustrating to have lost precious time because of a failure in the mechanics of the game. We asked for some compensation and were offered to have our passports stamped (they have a cute passport for people that play), and that was it. It was really upsetting, because it felt not fair to be unable to get closer to complete the game because of a game problem. The room was fantastic, though. So, again, I'm trying to write a fair review despite the fact that I'm really annoyed and upset with the situation.”

“It's a small hotel. You're not going here for the lush amenities. You're going for the highly social and eclectic crowd it attracts. If you want to stay somewhere that you'll leave with new friends, this may be a good place to try out. The rooms are basic, but clean. The service was wonderful; everyone was super helpful. The location isn't in the best part of town (Let's face it, much of NOLA isn't the best part of town any longer), but I felt completely safe on the hotels property at all times. Stacey is a gem of an employee here. While in the pool, I asked her to book an extra night for me. I didn't realize her shift was ending. I asked specifically for the same room I checked out of earlier that day. The room had been cleaned and the bed stripped; but there were no new towels, waters, and the bed wasn't remade. I asked Stacey to just throw the linens on the bed. I'd remake it myself and apologized for catching her when she was trying to leave. Stacey stayed late and, with a positive attitude, made sure my room was completely back ready to be used again (bed made, plenty of towels, water, more toilet paper, etc.).”

“Super cute place!! I had never stayed at a hostel before but and was a bit apprehensive for my first time but I am SUCH a fan now. The front desk girl helped me and my friend end up in the same room which was super clutch as we had made bookings in different rooms by accident. The amenities are super clean and convenient. Location is amazing. We just walked to all the bars and food/shopping. Free parking too! Coming from the bay this is so appreciated. Made a little snack and some drinks too with ease :) The owners and their friends are the nicest people. Super down to earth and answered all our questions and were down to just hang and have a good time. Genuinely sad that we weren't in South Lake for longer but looking forward to the next time for sure!!”

Nancy was super accommodating my most recent stay which was pretty last minute. If you are looking for a host that is professional, friendly, and authentic, then you are looking for Nancy. The overall experience is top notch from the facility itself to the community experience with all the other guests. Each visit I have met new people that are sociable and freely willing to engage in conversation. I've told myself multiple times I'm going to go to bed early just so that I can get an early start for the next day; only to find myself staying up much later than I wanted to because I got caught up chatting away with new acquaintances. The facility is very clean, and the accommodations are just right, regardless of the length of your stay. Nancy and her crew are the type of hospitable folks that make your stay feel like an extension of your own home. I also want to give a shout-out to Alex for being so welcoming on each of my follow up stays. It's always nice when you are remembered, but when you can tell that someone is authentic when they greet you with a smile on their face while they say "Welcome Back!" honestly it just starts your stay off on an even more positive note!”

“This place used to be excellent in the past. Stayed 3-4 times here and the latest being in Dec 2024. Except for the walkable vicinity from King station, Seattle, there is absolutely nothing good about this hostel. Not heated enough in Dec-Jan, uncomfortable sleep. Horrible breakfast with no actual coffee (they have instant coffee, creamer powder and a microwave), and bananas. It's such a hassle to request front desk to use elevator while bringing bags upstairs. They can certainly do decently better for the decent price they charge.”

“Mixed feelings, because it is cheaper than most anywhere else, though the $38 per day parking nearby offsets that if you have a car. Location wise, it's great to walk to places, and there were good people to talk to in the hostel, but I ended up checking out early due to issues that prevented me from sleeping: 1. This is located right above a bar that plays music very loud, and if you have a dorm on the second floor, you are going to have a rough time sleeping at night even on a weekday, even with ear plugs with how the bass carries. If this was the only issue, I would get over it and just sleep from 2:00 in the morning until 9:00 or 10:00. 2. With 8 people in a room it can get pretty muggy, and the ventilation doesn't seem to keep up with the level of humidity, so the windows have to be opened at night, which leads to all kinds of traffic noise... I wear earplugs every night, but that close there's not much that helps. 3. Some guests in the hostel may need to be interviewed about whether or not they have stayed at a hostel before, or have the front desk emphasize that you should not be on a phone call at 6:00 in the morning, or laughing at YouTube videos that you watch on your phone. Two of the guests in my dorm did not seem to understand that. 4. Blackout curtains, and curtain rods... Almost all of the curtains in the room let in plenty of light, making mornings after a late night difficult as mentioned in the first point... Not only that, but one of the curtain rods is falling down in room 201 which lets even more light in. I really appreciate the staff there, they answered my questions and helped me check out early. I needed my own space and didn't want to risk additional nights with issues in other rooms. Perhaps a bit more detail on some of the rooms or arrangements based on people's desire for sleep versus staying out late would be helpful going forward for people making a decision to stay here.”

“Really cute, boutique hostel/hotel in the funky Fremont neighborhood close to many restaurants, bars and shops. We stayed here on New Years Eve and had a private room with its own bathroom. We enjoyed exploring the various markets in Fremont. The weather was good when we were there so we ended up walking to Gas Works Park via the canal and even walked up to Ballard! Unfortunately, we forgot an item in the room and contacted the owner and they quickly responded saying it was found and they were mailing it back to us. Thank you! Easy booking, good communication for arrival info. Recommended!”

“The staff was very friendly and helpful and the hotel is in a great location right near a subway station. There is also a penthouse floor with stunning views of the city that provided a nice spot to work. Unfortunately, our room felt pretty grimy and unclean. The floors were sticky and the chairs in the room....let's just say I covered them with a towel before I felt comfortable sitting on them. The two redeeming qualities in the room were the comfortable bed and a window that opened to let some fresh air in.”
