“Our party of 6 arrived with a reservation and was immediately seated. Our server Diveen was friendly, took our humor in stride and was attentive. The atmosphere is upscale with a nice beer, wine and liquor menu highlighted with local flavor. The food menu is also filled with local flavor highlighted with whitefish, cherries and apples. The food was a bit too salty for my taste, but others thought it was fine. A relaxing night out for a good dinner.”

“Short walk from Children’s Hospital. Location A plus. The ambience is beautiful and musical selections were on point. I sang and danced my seat the whole time. We sat at the bar, our bartenders were great. Brett especially stood out! He was very knowledgeable and made suggestions on drinks and food. Our orders came out pretty quick, Drinks and Food To Go as well. I loved my spicy tacos and I loved the Seasonal Pear Margarita as well. I always love a restaurant with a Troy location. ”My mother and her partner like to frequent this place. Their food is good and the service is great. They have a very family feel to the restaurant. Their drinks are very good and the food seems fairly authentic. The mini nachos were a little spicy for my 5 year old, but she thinks everything is spicy. I'm pretty sure the kids mac and cheese is just Easy Mac. The powder was not stirred in well I definitely cleaned my plate.”

”Overall it was a nice evening out. The drinks were amazing! The food was just ok. A shrimp cocktail for $15 was not a good value as the shrimp were tiny and some were not deveined. Not worth the price and I would like two-bite shrimp! I had the crab cake with the TERRIBLE TOMATO AND COLESLAW! Not appealing at all and it didn't taste good! It looked even worse! The bread pudding was great. Service was slow and we didn't get water for the first 12 minutes. The server was okay…a little snarky but decent. Hate sitting by the kitchen! The $50 deposit is trash. It was supposed to go towards the bill but they refunded it and now I'm still waiting on my refund! Should have just stuck to the application to the bill. Overall it was just decent. Likely won't return for another 2 years!”

The Parmesan truffle fries are better than Hop Doddy’s and theirs are good; the Parmesan truffle dip makes these fries some of the best I’ve ever eaten. Portions were huge! The freshly fried fish made these tacos really good; to get that Texan flavor they could use a few more toppings like a lemon wedge, cilantro, fresh hot salsa. The fish makes it good anyway you look at it. This restaurant has the best raspberry sweet tea, too!”

”I got the beef burrito with the XX sauce and it was delicious. Definitely spicy if you enjoy spice, but not at all overbearing. The beef was also shredded and spiced great. “Extras” will be added to your burrito, not on the side. I was hoping the fish was going to be some local whitefish, but I’ll have to try the catfish next time. In a 5-day U.P. trip, this was my favorite spot that wasn’t a Pasty or Whitefish spot. We enjoy a middle spicy flavor with authentic taste. So we went with the enchiladas Supreme and the wet burrito Supreme. Both meals had the taste that we were looking for, but the negative was that the ground beef was kind of mushy. But everything else was excellently flavored. The unlimited chips and salsa are so fresh and delicious that we ordered some to take home for later 😋 The bathroom was very clean and also had paper towels instead of an air dryer. Big plus for me.”

”This place I recommend. They have some dishes on the menu that are absolutely amazing. We try a new food from the menu every time we come. I highly recommend the pasta dishes and their dips. My boyfriend has loved their meat dishes we have tried. The nachos are layered just right so the chips beneath everything still has toppings! Service has always been good to us and we have always enjoyed our meals. If I had to not recommend something it would be the seared sashimi. Sashimi is supposed to be served raw. When it’s seared it’s just crusted on the outside and the fish is still very much raw. Ours came out completely cooked and it was very dry (see photo). Unfortunately with this dish, it is not as difficult to tell that it was cooked incorrectly and overcooked unlike something like an uncut steak. Thats my biggest concern at the fact the chef let this leave the kitchen cooked and plated the way it was. I hope they fix this so it is served correctly from now on because I believe it would have been amazing if cooked right.”

”I thought I'd finally try this place today and even though I balked at the outrageous prices for some of the items, I decided to try it anyway. I ordered nachos and sopapilla's to go. I live nearby so it wasn't long until I was digging in. I noticed that there weren't any chips showing in the nachos but dug in with a fork thinking they were just covered up. Imagine my surprise when I found one (1) single layer of tortilla chips under the mountain of salad and over salted ground beef. Seriously? Just one layer?? I kid you not, it couldn't have even been 10 chips total! It costs $15.39 for these nachos and you skimped out on the cheapest part. What a joke.This place should be called Real Trick Express if thus is your idea of serving people what they paid for. While the sopapillas were okay, it is not enough to overshadow the theft of my money. Never again! I will never waste my money or my time here again and I will not recommend anyone else do so either.”

”Had a lovely meal and experience at this “new to me” restaurant! Saw it on social media and the location and atmosphere live up to the hype. With the canals and boat slips it feels more like a tropical paradise than east Detroit. Loved the outdoor areas, the whimsical furniture/settings, and combined indoor/pergola/outdoor areas. It could use better signage and the parking situation isn’t great; can be confusing where to park and enter. The hostesses were friendly and welcoming. Our server was over immediately and was fantastic start to finish. Fun drink menu and loved the $3 beers. The food menu, although a little ‘small’ was still interesting and varied. Shared a smoked fish dip appetizer—yummy! Entrees of fish and chips (fantastic) and marrow burger (unfortunately overcooked-not served medium). Was hungry so didn’t want to send burger back but I’m sure they would’ve brought us another one if requested. Overall super fun and will come bask. They should figure out a way to offer boat rides or even a dinner cruise. The reason for 4 stars v 5 is the parking situation and the burger but don’t let either deter you.”

Nestled between two small lakes, The Highland Inn is a perfect place to unwind from your unwinding at the lake. Being established before Prohibition, the Inn is rich in history, character, and ambiance. I had the best tacos I've ever had in my life while my daughter enjoyed a burger and fries that were large enough for two meals. The staff was friendly, engaging, and fun to interact with.
