“The General Gordon Hotel has become one of my favorite places to have dinner with friends. Following a complete reconstruction of the building, the pleasant decor, lighting, music, and atmosphere have completely transformed the place. It's great to see families enjoying dinner and friends gathering for drinks. During our visit, we ordered the Garlic Prawns Fettuccini and a delightful ricotta gnocchi with browned butter. The dishes were not only delicious but also affordable. I highly recommend this place. The menu offers a great variety of food and drinks to suit different preferences. It's truly a gem worth trying.”

“This hotel was in an amazing location! The hotel features were amazing and the staff were friendly. We stayed in a deluxe spa room. It was a great size and had a balcony, over looking the river. The bed was comfortable and excellent WiFi! The only downside was that the hotel didn't communicate with their guests, that NYE fireworks were being set off, from the hotels roof.... sudden banging noises were quite unsettling. (Would have also been nice to know, so we could have gone and watched them!)”

“This is our second year in a row staying on a powered site and this year, we found it even better than last. Before we arrived, they had blower cleaned the slab - very nice! Bathrooms were spotless as was everything else, including the laundry. The dog park is wonderful and a place we could throw the ball for our boy. The location is excellent and reception/check in process was seamless. Even though it was the height of school holidays, it was peaceful, quiet and a lovely environment. Highly recommend.”

“I made a phone booking for a Executive Twin room 4 months earlier and double checked there would be 2 beds. My sister rang a couple of days later to check that the room was disability friendly. On arrival last week the room had only one bed and a pull out sofa bed. On complaining we were told the room had been swapped that morning. On asking why it had been changed both the initial person and the manager said "well I didn't do it" We asked them which of the two 64 yr olds should use the sofa bed, the disabled one or the one with bad knees. As our room had already been occupied we were given another room. This was room number 1 in a row of six. Three steps led up to the room with no railing. This meant that my sister who has great difficulty negotiating steps had to walk 6 rooms along to get to the ramp then walk the 6 rooms back to our room, all very difficult for someone who needs 2 walking sticks at times to get about. The rooms were clean and tidy but had a strange smell. There needs to be more hooks in the bathroom to hang things. The parking spaces for the rooms also need to be numbered as someone who was at the restaurant took our spot despite there being plenty of spaces away for the rooms and just as close to the restaurant. The breakfast at the Crib room was good and the coffee was really great.”

Bed for me was too firm and pillows need replacing or take your own. My son said it was fine for him. Overall 3/5 but would stay again.”

“My experience with this motel was fabulous. The room had everything you would expect. Smart tv was also provided which entertained our family while in the room. The beds were super comfortable and also heated for winter. Apparently there was supposed to be a heated pool but that was never found but the outdoor pool was great fun for a relaxing end of day. Would recommend 👍.”

Facilities were very clean, well designed, however need to pay attention to beginnings of mould build up. Plus make your way the short walk to Little Beach Boathouse cafe for a vino, reasonable food and some local dolphin watching. Just love this area.”

“Didn’t meet the basics. While the location of the villas are nice facing the beach, it is not worth the ~$400 per night charged for a two bedroom self contained with a queen and 4 bunks. Hospitality is lacking from front reception, we did not feel a warm welcome. The venue doesn’t make up beds on the top bunks and they are making serious cheap budget choices with their cleaners, we had to take out our rubbish bin so not to incur an additional cleaning charge with a notice m in the kitchen advising so. The top bunk fitted sheet was dirty and we weren’t given sheets needed to make up the room, however, they were quick to address this when notified. This element is given a 2 star rating. The self contained villas require basics hospitality management, for a villa that sleeps 6, there are only 3 table spoons, an indoor table that sits 4 people, no soap dish in the bathroom. It doesn’t take much to make sure there is enough cutlery for people staying in the unit so we don’t have to eat breakfast with a teaspoon. I would give kitting out 3 stars. Sleeping was okay, sheets are clean, blankets are warm, pillows average. It was good but not great, I’d give the bedding a 3 star rating. Restaurant is great, the staff in this section are friendly and the food is delicious. The outside of the restaurant is really nice and I can see why people have weddings here. 5 stars for the restaurant :-) It is disappointing the accommodation isn’t up to the same standard as the restaurant, I wouldn’t stay here again, it hasn’t left a good impression on us. Staying across the bridge in Eden is recommended.”

“A great hostel by Australian standards. Roomy and tall pods with enough space around the mattress to keep a few belongings close by. Each pod has a privacy curtain, power socket, light and a couple of hooks for hanging your jacket/towel/handbag. The mattress was comfortable and they provide bedding, a towel and soap. I stayed during a heatwave and the room was a comfortable temperature for sleeping. The lockers are big enough for a backpack and a few other small items. There was enough space in the room for everyone to leave their suitcases against the wall. The showers were clean and spacious with good hot eater. Kitchen was good enough for basic cooking. Wifi worked fine. My flight arrived late and they were kind enough to let me check in late (the caretaker let me in and provided a temporary key to use until the front desk opened for check in). The only issue was that you can hear the music from a nearby nightclub very loudly until around 3am. It's loud enough that earplugs don't block it out. That said, the location is great - it's central and close to the train station.”

“Had an awesome one night stay here! We checked in around 4pm and went straight to the bar where the manager came and checked us in, they even gave us a room upgrade which was amazing! We then tried out some food and drinks and the portions were huge! We got the nachos and wedges and a few drinks which were yum 😊 all the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We came out here to go and visit all the waterfalls and sights in the area, but unfortunately the weather didn’t hold up the following day! We definitely hope we can stay here again before heading back to NZ. 10/10 recommend!”
