The Southgate House Revival

“First time at this venue. Nice setup. Downstairs there was a bar. A small stage was there. I'm told they have open mic night a couple times a week. Several guitar players, and other musicians were gearing up to play. I'm an open mic fan so I'll come back to jam sometime. My gal and I came here to see Luther Van and the Floods, and the headliner Popa Chubby. I ordered tickets on line. It was $5 per ticket cheaper. I had the choice of having the tickets sent to me, or hold at the Will Call. I chose Will Call. I checked out several acts on the Web site. There's no set ticket price and it varies depending on the performer. We paid $20 each ticket, but I saw prices as low as $12 and high as $25. The website said tickets held at the Will Call could be picked up starting at 5pm. The show was to start at 7:30. We were not able to get Will Call tickets until 7pm. Not a big deal, but don't be surprised if the same happens to you. At 7pm we hopped in line, had a color wrist band. We went upstairs into an old church sanctuary. The natural reverb sounded great. As a sound man, it would be a challenge. But the sound guy did fantastic. The lights and acoustics were a bonus. The stained glass windows added to the ambience. We sat at a small table. In the rear of the room was a bar, complete with a pipe organ. The opening act was Luther Van and the Floods. I really liked them. Good energy by the band, and a music style that a Tarantino film would love. Popa Chubby was the best guitar act I've witnessed. He played so much emotion and talented thru his guitar... Words can't describe. Will definitely return.”

“I was a guest at Churchill Downs this past weekend for the surviving families recognition day. The staff I met, talked with, were so friendly, nice, worked so hard and such awesome people. The buffet was so beautiful, great selection and such tasteful food. I loved millionaires row, the entertainment and the service was simply out of this world. Thank you!!!”

Mary Todd Lincoln House

( 8 reviews )

578 W Main St, Lexington, KY 40507, United States

”We spent an hour here on a self-guided tour, exploring the rooms and reading the information provided. This was an important place for me to visit, as I have been fascinated by Mary Todd Lincoln since I was little. I found the information on her formative years interesting, as well as the more current view of the contribution that enslaved Americans made during that time period. I realize that it was her childhood home, but wish there had been more information about her later years, which are so interesting. The staff were kind and happy to answer any questions.”

Farmington Historic Plantation

Close until 10:00 AM

3033 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40205, United States

”We enjoyed the tour of this historic plantation. The tour starts with an introduction to the property and the connection to Abraham Lincoln. Then, the guide takes over and starts with walking up to the main house and giving us information along the way. The guide was really knowledgeable and put a personal touch by telling us his thoughts about the family and home as well. It is not the most grand home we've toured but definitely a nice stop if you're in the area. And if you are really into Abe Lincoln, it's a definite bonus. They are still working on updating some areas of the home but to have several items original to the family and home. Be advised that you can not take pictures inside the home, but you are able to take as many as you want outside. The outside tour is on your own, but they do provide a map of the property. We spent approximately 2 hours on site. That includes walking the grounds after the house tour and looking around the gift shop. The tour itself was closer to 1 hour.”

”Went on a bourbon distillery tour and tasting. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable but the tour was very short and the things to see were limited. Still good value for the cost. We got to sample 6 drinks then got a coupon for a discount if we wanted to drink more at the bar.”

Augusta Distillery
4.9
( 16 reviews )

207 Seminary Ave, Augusta, KY 41002, United States

”A fun, unique experience from this young distillery. Our host Cory was a blast, and even though he is new to bourbon was knowledgeable and a lot of fun to spend some time with. The tasting experience is unique in that you get to pull your samples straight from the barrel and enjoy them as you learn about the different bourbons inside. You also have the option to bottle your own barrel strength bourbon at the end. This distillery is worth the drive and I will be keeping an eye on them as they expand and grow. Do not sleep on this place.”

Mammoth Cave Wildlife Museum

”Couldn't go the full 5 stars due to the service at front desk. It doesn't hurt to smile, especially when a family drove 455 miles to visit your location while viewing other stops like "caves!" The history & detail was AWESOME though & really worth the while and attitude at the front.........she must've had a mean game of Solitaire goin' on her phone that morning!! Oh yeah and way too overpriced!!”

South Central Kentucky Cultural Center "museum Of The Barrens"

”Hands down one of the best historical collections for a region anywhere in the world. Kudos to Kay, the retired school teacher who has so lovingly and carefully overseen the collection by cataloguing everything, arranging thought provoking displays, and supplementing the displays with notebooks showing photos and additional details about the numerous interesting ideas. They even have an airplane - look close for it, though, the airplane is often missed because of the wide variety of interesting artifacts all around you!”

”Great venue, beautiful. The food however is average. $250 for dinner for 2 (2 apps , 2 drinks each and 2 entrees). I would choose numerous restaraunts over this one. The staff was great but the food was just lacking at the price point they want.”

”I love this place. I had my nostril pierced for a long time and decided to get my septum and other nostril done (both were weeks apart) and each time I came in, it was fast, clean, easy, and beautiful jewelry! The workers here are super duper kind, very talkative, and funny! I lost the ball to my septum one night and they even replaced the ball for free! Each piercing I’ve gotten here has healed beautifully and fast. If I could I’d give them 10 stars for everything. Fast, friendly, easy.”

”Very very great place now with new owner! Gunfights are awesome. And the stunt show was so funny! They have a small gift shop at the top, the woman in the gift shop at the top of the mountain named Lillie very sweet! Could use some more items at the top gift shop. She treated us with great hospitality... Not sure if the chairlift will ever be running again, but the older gentleman driving up the mountain was awesome! Very friendly people! Highly recommend We Will be back!”
