804 Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn VIC 3122, Australia

“Affordable and tasty Japanese food in a very cosy Glenferrie shopfront. We ordered beef teriyaki, chicken katsu curry, and some korokke. Food came out quick and hot. Note that this place has limited seating, and there is often a wait. Staff will take your name for a waitlist, and you can go for a wander and a drink, like we did.”

Kenzan Japanese Restaurant

Collins Place Lower ground floor, 45 Collins St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia

“It is probably the best Japanese restaurants in Melbourne I have had so far. We all left with joy and satisfaction like just travelled to Japan. The freshness and quality of seafood, ingredients are top notch. You can tell this when you try their Sushi and Sashimi platter. Sukiyaki and Tempura Moriawase are great too. It has nice low lighting and minimalist decor, such a nice atmosphere. Service is great too. The price is high but it is understandable for experience and quality.”

Don Don Francis St

2 Francis St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia

“During my UNI days, I used to go to Don Don in Swanston St. Glad I found this franchise while walking around looking for something to eat. The Food has always been the same taste no matter which franchise I go to. Authentic Japanese taste, serving size is generous and price is cheaper compare to all the other Japanese Restaurants. Highly recommend.”

“Excellent menu, the perfect amount of options (not an overwhelming amount to choose from) with plenty of vegetarian/vegan and gluten free options. Various seating options, we sat at the communal triangle table in the centre which is great! Meals are tasty and wholesome. A gem for Gertrude 🍜”

Kumo Izakaya
4.4
( 8 reviews ) $$

152 Lygon St, Brunswick East VIC 3057, Australia

“Atmosphere is the stand out at Kumo. Great seating space and overall vibe, transports you from Sydney Rd outside. Service is lacking, we were looking closely and waiting a good 4-5 minutes every time we needed some assistance and our water for the table didn’t arrive until after we had ordered all of our food. Maybe it was just an off night as all staff were lovely but everything was just moving real slowly. The food was good, but there were little things which made it just slightly miss the mark. The squid lacked tenderness and was quite chewy. The tuna tacos and beef tataki were undersalted. The sushi roll had a lot more rice than filling. And the chicken kaarage was quite dry.”

Niku Ou Japanese Chargrill Restaurant

Shop 9/10 108 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia

“The service was totally bad. Especially nobody was seeing us out. It never happened to us in AU during these several travel days. The dinning area was also very noisy (close to the kitchen). The cooking skills were normal. Only the meat quality could match the price very well. Hope to be better.”

Disease Charcoal Grilling

160 Little Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia

“The place was lovely, the food was divine. We ordered the set menu good for 3 to 4 and it did not disappoint. Very good proportions not too much but not too little. We went home full and happy but not feeling like we ate too much. The atmosphere was great. The staff and manager took good care of us. They checked on us and made sure everything was going great. Very accommodating (I have a toddler). The Japanese a5 beef was melt in your mouth delicious! Perfectly cooked and tasted to good. We went to Ishiya before but we were referred here due maintainance going on their kitchen. They were so good to recommend us here and accommodated us by making the booking for us. Both Ishiya and Shou Sumiyaki are hospitality champs! Would bring the family over to these places again definitely”

“Lovely ambience and crowd tonight. Great for groups of 4. We loved the Zucchini filled flowers, the Burrata and the sourdough bread. The fish of the day was ordinary, the crab risotto ok, veal tasteless.”

Pinkie Cafe

Open until 03:00 PM

1 Westley Ave, Ivanhoe VIC 3079, Australia

“We got a really tasty meal here! The portion sizes were huge and filled with flavour. The pancakes looked amazing but wanted more sauce as they were a bit dry. The pinkie hash was sooo delicious but needs a sauce with it as it is a bit plain on its own. The bowl was massive and super tasty! The juices were refreshing as well.”

Shimbashi Japanese Soba & Sake Bar Restaurant

140 Smith St, Collingwood VIC 3066, Australia

“We visited this cozy place in the evening. Seats are plenty. Food is tasty and portion size is large. We notice the theme of the foods here is about healthy food. Though a bit pricey but the food is worthy.”

“My friend and I both ordered the Hasu set. We both enjoyed every dish except for the quill. Even with the source, we both felt that the quill tested dry or leathery. We laughed about it, but the next dish was much more enjoyable. Getting a birthday candle as a surprise was a pleasant surprise for me. Please keep it as it is as I felt it had a very personal touch to it. Thank you for that. I look forward to returning in the near future.”

Level 2/200 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia

“Tried to walk in but got stopped by the manager Daniel starting that they are 'fully booked' due to a promotion 50% when you book on 4th April. I then went onto the website the fork and saw that the restaurant has tables available at all time slots (30minutes). Ended up booking the table (no promotion) and went back to face a disgruntled Daniel. Requested to change to a booth table but was refused by Daniel saying that table had been booked by others, but finished my dinner in an hour and a half and the booth table is still empty. Sat down at the table for 15 minutes and no one to take our order so I had to walk up to the front and grab attention of the staff but I found that there were only 2 waiters busy with other tables. Food was mediocre at best and serving portions of meat were quite miserable. Got the tofu teriyaki but the outer crumbs were soggy. Wagyu hot plate had a tad of odour, and it was cooked with Brussel sprout a very odd pair of combination. The mackerel was good but the bottom bit got burnt making the fish taste quite bitter. The only redeeming factor was the scallops sashimi, it had a sweet taste to it showing it freshness. The beef tataki taste is pretty bland the sauce combination and the amount given is inadequate. This is a place I would not go in future even if it was 50% off, even worse I paid in full that day. 112 dollars for those dishes. Disappointing”

“If you’re looking for an affordable and high quality Japanese food in the city, I would say - look no further! I’ve been here a few times and their food quality has always been very consistent. Their grilled mackerel was my favourite (hands down the best in Melbourne! 🙌) and don’t think you were could find any seafood tempura with great selection of seafood and taste as good as theirs! 😍”

Malayan Orchid Restaurant

“Would've liked to give it higher but that fact that it took 1hr+ between entree/soup and main course to serve Singapore noodles, veges and chicken was pretty disappointing. Food was decent, but not 1hr+ wait decent. +1 for the fact we got a complimentary panna cotta take away dessert upon leaving.”

Kazuki's Restaurant

121 Lygon St, Carlton VIC 3053, Australia

“A beautiful fine dining experience! All the food was beautifully crafted and the flavours between each course varied and unique yet complementary. I booked for the 5 course tasting which included a first course with a variety of small bites. I had mentioned during the booking process an allergy to certain shellfish and the chef's made sure not so much as stock containing shellfish was included in my meal. They also gave a complimentary serving of chocolate mousse to celebrate my fiance's birthday. The restaurant was intimate and cosy and would recommend for a romantic dinner for those who appreciate fine dining.”

“All you can eat BBQ skewers. The lamb cumin skewers were the tastiest. Note that the chef will help you cook the wooden skewers only. Just bring those skewers to the kitchen and write your table number on a sticky note pad and they’ll cook it and bring it to your table. The other metal skewers and meats you have to cook it yourself at your table. The carrot cake was a nice finish to he meal.”
