“Driving through on a road trip up the East Coast from Texas we stopped at a gas station near here and were super hungry. Being from Texas, we eat a lot of both, Authentic and TexMex, and there is a distinct difference between the two. Assuming this was going to be more of an authentic experience, we were a bit let down. The food was bland, and lacked any flavor. The chips were hard and the salsa was watery. The place was packed and the locals seemed to be loving it. The bathrooms were dirty, our table was dirty as the floor had not been swept it a while. It was just not the best experience it could have been.”

“I went to Memphis twice in late 2023. First time around I tried central bbq and Marlowes. Central was terrible (food truck) , Marlowes was a nice sit down diner with an Elvis centered atmosphere (good food). 2nd time around I went to Payne’s bbq. I was blown away by this bbq. It’s unique , tasty, and the atmosphere adds to the authenticity of this bbq. The smoke on the ribs and the sandwich was perfect. And it was all paired to perfection with their mustard based slaw. I consider this an experience of fine bbq dining in a local mom n pop atmosphere. If you’re in town and want that “Legendary Memphis Bbq” Paynes is the place to go.”

“I recently moved from Washington state and stopped in for a late lunch. The staff was amazing, friendly, informative, and fun! I have been back for dinner and music at least 4 times in the past two weeks...I absolutely love it❤ The atmosphere is glorious!! I had the opportunity to meet the owner Mark and he was wonderful too!! They have incredible local music 🎶 shout out to Johnny Mac...so talented!! Staff shout outs go to Jessica, one of my top 3 bartenders ever, and I'm not young 😉 To Kirby, Regan, and Shelly...I know I'm forgetting some, sorry ladies ❤ And to top it off, I've got to meet some of the local folks who are warm, friendly, and fun...shout out here to Pansie, the dancing machine, just love this woman!! “Well, I really didn’t want to say anything but this is really bothering me. My husband and I decided we wanted to get out for the evening. So we noticed the Blue Monkey wasn’t packed and the atmosphere was a vibe. We set in our own little corner and ordered a meal. Everything was good except the Cole slaw. Definitely a no go. So our waiter Chris….who was astounding, brought us out the twice baked potato. Just as soon as we were about to jump into it, a beautifully, brown house roach crawled across the table like he lived there. At that point, I wasn’t hungry anymore. We politely paid for our meal, tipped the waiter and left. So we will not be patronizing this establishment in the future. I would like to thank you for your services and wish you well.”

“My family and I had dinner here and it was amazing. With so many Mexican options it can be hard to pick a favorite but this clearly our favorite in town so far. So far I have tried the wings, mojarra with adobo sauce, carne asada taco, fried rice, burgers and fries, chicken cheese and rice, tamales, and the menudo. All these options are wonderful. We have never had a bad meal here. The prices are decent too. This is perfect place to grab a bite. The flavor are unmatched. We certainly recommend checking them out. You will not be disappointed. The hidden gem is most definitely the fried rice and the wings!! Hands down the best.”

“We went on a Saturday night around 8pm they sat us right away we were a party of 7. Our waiter was really friendly he suggested we should come around 6pm next time because they had run out of some of the items on the menu, the reason is because everything is fresh and nothing they have is frozen. I order the brisket plate and it was so delicious. Everything was really good so much flavor in there food. We are definitely coming back but much earlier. We fell in love with there cheese muffins so fresh and delicious!”

In fact, if anyone can leave without buying something, I’d be surprised. I love looking at everything, and trying to decide what I need and want. This place has every jam and jelly imaginable- with and without sugar. At this time of year, they have so many kinds of apples to pick from. Lots of veggies are on hand. The pies are in a separate location, and WILL tempt you. Prices are competitive and reasonable. Friendly folks are available to help you find stuff and check out. Whenever we are within 30 minutes of this place, we HAVE to visit and buy something.”

“I've been wanting to try this place for quite sometime. I brought my parents here while they were visiting. I love the unique atmosphere and although we weren't able to get a table upstairs with the view the staff made up for that with their kindness, attentiveness, and high level quality of service that is hard to find nowadays. The food is absolutely phenomenal! There's always equal flavor in every bite. We had Calamari and Veggie Spring Rolls for an Appetizer (not pictured). My parents loved their meals. They have something for everyone. My dad got a vegetarian meal which was the Portobello Mushroom Tacos (not pictured) and loved it. My mom got the Chicken and Shrimp and loved it. I got the Mongolian Beef and Shrimp and it was phenomenal! The beef is seasoned to perfection and the shrimp is perfectly grilled, all with a bed of Fried Rice with veggies. SIMPLY to die for and a must stop if you want a delicious, homemade, great food, with exceptional customer service!”

“The food and atmosphere were good. Our server was nice but the staff seemed cold to us. We sat at the bar and weren’t acknowledged for quite a few minutes and even then it seemed as though they weren’t really happy to be there. It wasn’t until I realized who the owner was and the fact that we were wearing Taylor Swift merch that maybe that was the reason. It may not have had anything to do with it but if not then it wasn’t an interactive or fun environment. I was really excited to try this place. The hot Mac n cheese looks amazing but our timing was off and it wasn’t on the brunch menu. The Monte Cristo and the breakfast potatoes were good as was the crepe and burger and fries. I like the design and the live music was great! I hope I can try the Mac and cheese next time. I’ll just remember to wear a different outfit. lol”

“This was a pleasant little surprise at our hotel! Beautiful views and the food was great for a late lunch after a day of travel. Market Salad -apple, pomegranate, red onion, pancetta, gorgonzola, candied walnuts, zesty apple cider vinaigrette -added grilled chicken. This was so good. Filling but not heavy. It also had a fantastic house dressing with some spicy tang to it. Crispy Chicken -red cabbage slaw, pepper jam, King’s Hawaiian roll with fries - my husband does NOT order chicken sandwiches but decided to at Denim. He LOVED it. He said the chicken was perfect and the fries were awesome. Definitely give this place a try just for the amazing atmosphere and great views.”
