Avro Heritage Museum
4.7
( 16 reviews )

Chester Rd, Woodford, Stockport SK7 1QS, United Kingdom

“What a fantastic day I had at the Avro Heritage Museum. Home of the Lancaster bomber and my favourite the, Vulcan jet bomber. Awesome plane! Had a very good tour of the Vulcan cockpit 5 man crew, all the instruments still look functional and old school. The wealth of experience of the volunteers. Some of the volunteers had been Vulcan crew members. The museum has a lot to offer about the aircraft factory that was on this site and manufactured the Lancaster and the Vulcan. So much innovation went on here. You could spend at least a week looking at all the information on display. The Museum building was once the old fire station for the airfield. Restaurants on the first floor where you can have hot drinks and hot food to eat, and a good view of the Vulcan. The volunteers who serve are so nice and helpful and happy to share their knowledge about the site. I went home with so much knowledge crammed into my head that it was leaking, and I want to come back to fill it with more information about this wonderful site. And see the Vulcan and sit inside the cockpit,😁😁😁😁😁 just awesome!”

Hardknott Roman Fort & Thermae.
4.8
( 8 reviews )

Hardknott Pass, Holmrook CA19 1TH, United Kingdom

“Roman Fort Ruins. The hardknott pass leading to the location is at times a hard drive. Not to be taken lightly... Especially if the weather is icy or even heavy rain , the roads are difficult enough. The Fort however is good. It was very boggy on the day and windy. Its an exposed location so dress accordingly to the weather conditions. Keep you're dogs on the lead at all times. There's usually sheep roaming around. We saw a dog chasing the sheep. Not good ! Enjoy the Fort 👍”

Bury Transport Museum
4.6
( 8 reviews )

Bolton St Station, Castlecroft Goods Warehouse, Bury BL9 0EY, United Kingdom

“We've visited several times including as part of a trip on the East Lancs steam railway. It's a medium-sized museum but seems to have lost some of the vehicles that were previously on display. There are some interactive parts for little ones but it would benefit from much more. You can get on one of the classic buses and there's the opportunity to sit behind the wheel of a bus cab. Parking is free on site and there is cheap on-road parking a short walk away on the road if this is full (the car park was actually very quiet though on our recent Sunday visit). If you are looking for other transport based museums with kids, the British Commercial Vehicke museum in Leyland and the transport museum in Cheetham Hill are similar but bigger.”

Royal Engineers Museum
4.7
( 8 reviews )

Prince Arthur Rd, Gillingham ME7 1UR, United Kingdom

“Lovely museum with loads to see and activities to do. I took my daughter here today and she found it really interesting (which for a six year old, trying to find anything that can capture her attention is a challenge but she watched the videos around the museum and took time to try and read the information on the displays - she was fascinated by so much of the museum). We did the workshop that was available for today which for £5 was brilliant value as we had a hour of learning about physics for kids (using paper airplanes) and Rosie Rivet. The lady who ran the workshop was lovely and the staff overall were fantastic as my daughter lost her toy lion and someone had handed him in and the ladies at the desk were helpful. Felt the cafe was pretty reasonably priced and the sandwiches were tasty. Given the price of the ticket is valued for a year we will come back to do the gallery which we missed due to time constraints. It’s worth a visit if you are in the area.”

Huckleberry Woods Micro Animal Adventures
