“Situated on Lake Carlos, this is a busy little state park due to its popularity for water craft on the lake on which it sits. Although mostly geared towards the water, there is plenty to do here on land as well. While not extensive, there are several hikes of varying lengths. Highly recommend the Prairie Pothole trail for fantastic views of restored tall-grass prairie - something vary rarely seen in MN now days. The picnic area at the beach is also very nice and well shaded. A good place to be if you need a break from the sun and heat.”

“Had a fantastic time camping here. Large campground, but it was quiet and peaceful the entire time. Spot 60E was great because it was right by both bathrooms, the dump station, water, and dumpster. We went on the north hiking trails the first day and had a blast. Saw many different animals and even an owl!! Next day we did the southern part of the hiking trail. It was very long and there wasn't too much to see except the prarie and the large stone area.”

“Been working out here for the last few months. I go in the mornings and it’s not too busy. Good selection of machines and free weights. Lexi does a great HIIT class on Friday mornings. It’s a great way to end out the week. As of 01/07/2024, their entry level monthly plans are reasonable and very competitive to comparable gyms such as planet fitness. Yes, there are more premium plans available but they are still cheaper than other gyms and you still get a good selection of weights and equipment. With premium plans you get classes, swimming pool, hydro massage and more. TL;DR - it’s pretty darn good”

“Beautiful golf course and terrain. It’s a challenging course but not overly so. The quality here is competitive with many of the private clubs in the Metro. It does get a tad pricey, but they have a premium product here. Excellent use of tall grasses around the property. Trees, water, hills…everything to offer tons of natural beauty. Also, best breakfast sandwiches in town. Friendly staff, great food and outdoor patio. Excellent practice area, too.”

The folks at Crunch in Maple Grove actually care which is nice. Everyone accepts my service animal across the board!! I will be posting this on her pages too. Thanks CRUNCH Staff and super extra THANKS to my rehab and recovery Trainer!!! These guys can really help you if you have major injuries and want to do physical therapy but also want to strengthen your injured areas so they do not get hurt again. Reinjured pain is usually even more than to original injury. Take your time and find a trusted and certified rehab trainer. I did and I would tell ya the details... but then you know what happens next! :-)”

“Update 1/9: Having staff post reviews saying how “clean” it is in the last few weeks doesn’t change the fact that the locker and bathrooms are still FILTHY. The gym itself is nice and mostly clean, but come on guys. Your “cleaning list” is clearly not doing anything. You need a company to maintain the locker rooms if you aren’t able to do so. With 5-10 team members working at a time it blows my mind how no one sees these things. Original: The gym is nice, but it’s evident that they don’t take cleanliness very seriously. If they did, they would take into account previous reviews and attempt to rectify the issue (“talking to management” hasn’t done anything). The locker rooms are absolutely disgusting: walls filthy, floors grimy, urinals reek, and even the hand dryers are so full of dust and dirt. I can’t even wash my hands because 2 of the 4 sinks don’t have working soap dispensers and the other 2 are out of soap. It’s appalling, but what do you do.”

“I have been a member of the Elk River YMCA for many years. But at the end of this month I will no longer be. I love to swim. That’s a big reason I joined the Y versus the other clubs with no swimming pool. But over the last year or so I have found myself unable to use the pool when I go. The YMCA subcontracted the pool to the elk River high school swim team. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for helping the kids but not at the expense of the dues paying members. The swim team gets the pool from 5:00 pm to close every Monday Wednesday and Friday. This goes on for months at a time. I work during the week so I can’t come that early. I have talked to YMCA management about my concerns and even offered solutions - like leave one lane open or have the swim team be done a half hour before close but I get blown off or ignored. I even asked the swim team once if I could use one lane for 15 minutes. There was plenty of room but all I got was an arrogant ‘nope we are using the pool. I pay dues there! Or at least I was. I should be able to use what I’m paying for. But they don’t care. I don’t think I’m being unreasonable here. So I’m done. It’s too bad too because it’s close to my house and it was a nice place.”

“This place is surprisingly very under-maintenanced, bad ventilation, poorly constructed, and looks like it's being held together by exposed plywood and masking tape. The hallways amd walkways remind me of something you'd see in an old community college cafeteria that hasn't been updated since 1994... their website indicates this was built in 2018. It's a place to play during the winter for several sports... and that's about it. Maybe those using it don't need more than that and it's probably okay by them.”

“The Refuge was a great place to get married! The staff were so upfront about everything from the beginning. We talked about prices, available dates, and rain options all at the tour. We toured other places but were immediately taken in by their honesty and support. All of the staff there were amazing! We worked with Lisa as our coordinator and she was great to answer all of our questions leading up to the day - and we had a lot of them! They were easy to communicate with and we always got quick responses. We brought up possible ideas and scenarios and they made us feel comfortable while also giving their honest feedback and suggestions. They have done this so many times and seen it all so there isn't much that will phase them. We got so many compliments on the food and the overall service from the waitstaff and bartenders. The space itself was exactly what we needed with the ceremony under the gazeebo only a few steps from the main building. The flowers and overall landscape of the whole property was so beautiful and made for some amazing pictures. We got a perfect sunny day and the giant windows in the reception hall brought in so much light! We also asked for the string lights to be hung from the beams and they were also gorgeous. We had one small hiccup on the day where the photobooth we rented from them wasn't working properly. Lisa took it upon herself to tell us and find a new vendor if we approved. She found one the SAME DAY and made sure they had a meal and a seat. That could have been a huge bummer but she fixed the problem for us! They only have 1 getting ready room at the venue so we decided to get mostly ready off site and then just get dressed at the venue. The outside firepit and porch/tables were very appreciated by our guests so they had somewhere to be if they didn't want to be inside with the music all night. We brought corn hole to set up on the porch and it was a hit! Overall we would highly recommend this venue to anyone who wants amazing service and food at a beautiful venue for a price that was hard to find around the Twin Cities.”
