“Recently bought the Historic Scotland membership card and my nephews decided they wanted to visit Dirleton Castle on the bank holiday so that what we done. The ladies in the shop were very friendly and informative which was nice. The grounds and garden are very well kept. Some bits of the Castle were closed off due to needing some restoration but we pretty much had the place to ourselves so the boys loved getting to explore - especially down in the prisoner area. Culross Palace, Culross, Dunfermline KY12 8JH, United Kingdom

“Culross Palace is a charming 17th-century palace located in the village of Culross, Fife, Scotland. It is managed by the National Trust for Scotland and is a popular tourist attraction for its well-preserved architecture and historical significance. The palace itself was built in the 16th and 17th centuries and showcases various architectural styles, including Renaissance and Georgian influences. It served as the residence of the wealthy merchants and industrialists of Culross during the height of the coal and salt industries. Visiting Culross Palace allows you to step back in time and experience life in the 17th century. As you explore the palace, you can wander through its beautifully decorated rooms, including the Great Hall, which features intricate wooden paneling and a large fireplace. The rooms showcase period furniture, artwork, and other artifacts that offer insights into the lifestyle of the time. The palace also includes a stunning walled garden, which has been meticulously restored to its original 17th-century layout. It's a peaceful and picturesque space perfect for a leisurely stroll, and it offers a variety of plants, fragrant herbs, and flower beds. In addition to the palace and garden, the village of Culross itself is worth exploring. It is considered one of Scotland's most complete examples of a Burgh (a historic Scottish town), with narrow cobbled streets and beautifully preserved buildings. Culross Palace offers guided tours, and their knowledgeable guides provide interesting insights into the history of the palace and the surrounding village. It's advisable to check the National Trust for Scotland's website or contact them directly for updated information on opening times and booking requirements. Whether you have an interest in history, architecture, or just enjoy immersing yourself in a charming and atmospheric setting, a visit to Culross Palace is highly recommended. “At the moment the castle is undergoing repairs to make it safe for the future but it was still a good tour and the tour guide was knowledgeable and was a good laugh to boot. Nice cafe and gift shop in one place with a small but interesting museum to one side. Great views from the top of the castle over the village. A worth while walk up the steep but winding path.”

Highland Cinema
4.6
( 16 reviews )

Cameron Square, Fort William PH33 6AJ, United Kingdom

“My first visit to Highland cinema was great. We popped in for lunch on a whim. I had to put 4*, but my rating, if I could, would be 4.5. The only issue we had was that the chicken coupons had to be sent back. My son said they tasted weird. The husband tasted them too and said they were really turmeric tasting, and the yellow had coloured the chicken. Nothing was mentioned on the menu, and these were on the kids' menu, I believe. With allergies, especially. it should be printed that there is a "seasoning." But full-on turmeric isn't really that nice. I asked the waitress what was on them as it tasted weird for my kid, and she just swopped for more fries as he didn't have more chicken by this point. Food otherwise was delicious. The pizza was great, but just a bit soggy in the center. It was absolutely fine to eat, but for myself, a thin base I like crispier, but otherwise, it was so delicious Husbands Highland Burger was great he said. The decor of the restaurant is just beautiful - the ceiling lights, fireplace and big windows make it quite rustic and chilled place to eat. I'd 100% go back. Really enjoyed. Oh, and the staff are super lovely. 👌🏻 ***The pizza was still very delicious and would still recommend. In fact, as I type this I could eat a pizza 🍕 . The staff fixed everything there and then :)”

Lagavulin Distillery
4.7
( 8 reviews )

Lagavulin, Isle of Islay PA42 7DZ, United Kingdom

“The bar area was closed due to the Jazz festival so didn't get to sample any drams. Unlike most others there didn't appear to be an outside area to wander round to view the Distillery from the outside other than the path that takes you down to the wildlife viewing area unless that was accessed through the bar. The shop was very good and staff was nice but had that almost aloof feel. That said I maybe persuaded to re evaluate my assessment on my return visit.”

“We chose not to go down into the mine, its pretty wet down there at the moment and two of us weren't wearing the correct footwear. I wasn't feeling the confined space thing either haha but the test of the tour was lovely. All guides are lovely and friendly as is the girl on the tea room which was also a lovely wee place.”

Crarae Garden
